LEDs replacing regular light bulbs or even compact fluorescent lamps (CFL)?
Can you go to the store today and buy a LED equivalent of 60 W light bulb?
We’re in the midst of the great lighting transformation, with solid-state LEDs on the cusp of transforming the lighting industry,” Eric Wesoff, a senior analyst at GTM Research, declared last week. “The Edison bulb will soon be a relic and CFLs an interim step.”

I saw a spot replacement LED on the clearance isle at Walmart last night. it was *only* $25. That’s good compared with the $100 it probably was when it was new. It only put out 200 lumens (as opposed to a 60W lightbulb that puts out 800 lumens). So we are getting close, but not quite there yet.
When they cost $25 retail and actually put out over 500 lumens in all directions, then they might start to become popular with the green & techie groups. That is still significantly more expensive than CFLs, but I might switch over as I prefer the light quality.
