For this blog post I am going to show you how to take existing CAD data and render it using 3DVIA Composer. For this example I am going to use a model that already has texture on it.
The first thing I am going to do is adjust the lighting. I prefer to create custom lighting so that I have more control of the final render. To do this you go to the Render tab and choose lighting mode, and turn on Per-Pixel and Shadows.
When applying lighting I find it easier to work within multiple viewports. This takes some of the guess work out of your lighting.
For this example I am going to create two directional lights. I do this by going to the Render tab, and under Lighting choose Create -> Directional Light.
For this example I created two light sources coming from the top, but from two different directions.
Now that my lighting is done I am going to add a ground image and a background. Make sure to change the Ground Type from Grid to Shadow.
First I will modify the ground. Under the Collaboration tab select Environment then Ground.
Then under Ground texture, I am going to map my ground image. And change the settings as shown in the image below.
Now all I need to add is a background.
To add backgrounds go to the Author tab and choose Panels and Image 2D. With this tool selected I create a box. Once the box is created go to Properties and enable Background, and change the Placement to Left=0, Top=0, Width=280, and Height=215. Then, under Map Path choose the background image.
Once you are done you can export your image as a high resolution Jpeg under the Publishing tab
