What is an RSS or XML feed?
“RSS” stands for Really Simple Syndication, which has become a standard for publishing updates to web content. In the past, you had to visit a website to find updated content. With RSS (also called XML feeds), you can subscribe to a feed, and you are alerted when the content is updated.
How do I read RSS?
There are three different ways you can read RSS feeds:
- I want to use my web browser. What are my options?
If you are using the latest version of Internet Explorer (version 8) or FireFox (version 3) then you will notice an RSS Feed icon become enabled in your browser bar. Pick the icon to access the feed.
- I want to use a web-based service. What are my options?
Web-based services are free, and have the added benefit of being available to you everywhere. The most common services are My Yahoo, Google Reader, and Netvibes. Pick on an icon to get started
- I want to use a desktop program. What are my options?
There are many desktop applications for Windows one that we recommend is FeedDemon. Most desktop programs require a small purchase price but are very easy to use.
