Ontario SolidWorks User Group provide the largest meeting in Canada!

Oakville, ON., August 27, 2008 - “One of the largest ever” is how Richard Doyle of SolidWorks described last month’s Ontario User Group meeting, which was organized by Chris White and Richard Matthews, heads of the Ontario SWUG (SolidWorks User Group). With Jon Hirschtick; founder of SolidWorks, as the event’s main speaker, it was a rare opportunity to hear one of the great minds of CAD speak on his vision and the future of the industry. With 116 attendees, not only was it the Ontario SWUGN’s largest meeting to date, but also the largest in Canada!

After a delicious BBQ dinner, guests were welcomed to the meeting by Javelin owner, Ted Lee; he used a quote by Jon Hirschtick from a few years ago to set the focus for the next part of the meeting. Jon had said that he “Wants SolidWorks to be as easy to use as a light switch”. To continue with this theme, Eric van Essen of Javelin then went on to give a presentation on Useful Tips & Tricks for the audience, using a model of a light switch for all of his demonstrations.

Jon Hirschtick took the stage to great fanfare, with an inspiring talk on his vision and the future of CAD. Hosted Computing, Open Source, Video Games, and Touch Interfaces were named by Jon as the four growing trends to look out for in the next few years. Jon’s friendliness, knowledge, and willingness to meet with every single attendee who wanted to talk was the perfect ending to an exciting meeting of the Ontario SolidWorks community. A great night was had by all and we hope to see you all again at the next meeting!
