DriveWorks Engineer

Design Automation for SolidWorks Engineers

DriveWorks Engineer lets you capture and re-use the rules needed to specify, design, manufacture and Engineer-to-Order

With DriveWorks Engineer you can automate repetitive tasks and automatically generate design and manufacturing outputs required to create new and variant products. You will save time and be able to specify the products whilst maintaining your engineering controls.

Should you be using DriveWorks Engineer?

  • Does your company design product variants or Engineer-to-Order?
  • Do you have repetitive design tasks that could be automated?
  • Could your products be defined by a set of rules/equations?
  • How often do you work on a product that is similar to something that you have designed before, or that is a variant of a standard product?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES then you should be automating your business with DriveWorks

With DriveWorks Engineer you can:

  • Automate your repetitive design tasks
  • Generate documentation/outputs automatically e.g. 3D models, 2D drawings, Cut Lists, DXF’s, and e-Drawings
  • Set up excel templates and then drive the cells to create customer specific documentation such as quotations
  • Increase the speed, consistency and accuracy of your output
  • Increase the speed and quality of your response to customers
  • Manage quality ensuring that results are consistent and accurate. DriveWorks manages the relationships between the specifications and performs relevant calculations to generate the 3D models.

DriveWorks Engineer Automation Process

DriveWorks features a simple wizard based interface which works right inside of SolidWorks. A brief outline of the process involved for using DriveWorks is listed below:

Table: DriveWorksEngineer Automation Process
Process Step Description
DriveWorks Process Step #1 Using SolidWorks and the DriveWorks Model Wizard you capture parameters from parts and/or assemblies that are to be driven to create variants of the design.
DriveWorks Process Step #2 The captured data is transferred automatically to the DriveWorks Rules Wizard so that Rules can be assigned. The rules are your company design procedures to be assigned to your products.
DriveWorks Process Step #3 Associate drawing templates. You can also assign custom properties with additional information about the CAD model. The properties can then be used to populate drawing borders.
DriveWorks Process Step #4 You can quickly create a custom user interface (form) for specifying new and variant products. This form will be used as the main interface for you and possibly your customers.
DriveWorks Process Step #5 Using the created form enter the design requirements and based on the rules you defined the new versions/variants of the design will be created automatically.

DriveWorks Engineer Requirements

DriveWorks software has been built on the principle of Ease of Use; a factor that differentiates DriveWorks from its competitors. No expensive programming or customization required. DriveWorks uses the tools on every SolidWorks' engineers desktop - SolidWorks and Microsoft Office.

DriveWorks utilizes Microsoft Access as standard (not required). But as your DriveWorks projects progress you may need the scalability other database applications offer. As a result DriveWorks can seamlessly progress to adopt MSDE when required.
