SolidMap

3D Design Relationship Visualization

SolidMap enables you to visualize relationships that are created between SolidWorks features, parts, and files in an interactive block diagram. Visualization of the feature, part, and file interdependencies dramatically reduces the time required to understand how a model is built which, in turn, enables you to much more efficiently design and edit models (your own models, or models from other users) and completely eliminates the need for you to rebuild models prior to being able to edit them.

In addition, SolidMap empowers you to easily diagnose and repair model rebuild errors through visualization of model interdependencies. With SolidMap, change is a welcomed part of the innovation process.

SolidMap Features

SolidMap enables you to view a part or an assembly model in the context of an interactive block diagram.  You can view “where used” and “reference” relationships that already exist between parts and subassemblies within

  • Visualization of Assembly component relationships (mate relationships): SolidMap enables users to view mates between components in an assembly through a unique block diagram.
  • Visualization of relationships between part features (Parent/Child relationships): SolidMap enables users to view existing parent/child relationships that exist within SolidWorks part and assembly files in the context of a block diagram.
  • Visualization of sketch relationships between features: SolidMap enables users to view and understand existing dependencies between features and/or sketches within a part through a unique block diagram.
  • Visualization of external reference relationships between files: SolidMap enables users to visualize external references that exist in the context of an assembly.  In addition, SolidMap will identify and display any circular references that exist within these external references.

SolidMap Benefits

  • Overall productivity improvement: Survey responses from SolidMap users indicate an average of 21% improvement in overall productivity with SolidMap
  • Increased collaboration among SolidWorks users: SolidMap enables users to understand SolidWorks models more efficiently.  This results in users being able to more readily share models with each other in order to gain the benefits of increased collaboration.
  • Less time to understand a model before you can edit it: With the unique graphical display of SolidWorks relationships, users of SolidMap can quickly understand the complex interdependencies that exist in SolidWorks models
  • More efficient method for pinpointing and fixing rebuild errors: Problems like feature rebuild errors, mate rebuild errors and circular references are much easier to pinpoint using the graphical SolidMap display, compared to attempting to diagnose these problems in text-based lists.
  • Eliminate the need to rebuild models before editing them: In some instances, SolidWorks users find it easier to completely rebuild a model in order to change it, rather than spending the time to figure out how to edit the existing model. SolidMap eliminates the need to do this.
We have found this tool to be very valuable in helping us to understand the existing dependencies inside of SolidWorks models much faster.
I believe many in our user community will benefit from using SolidMap during design and redesign phases.
