Workplace Innovation and Productivity Skills Incentive (WIPSI)
The Workplace Innovation and Productivity Skills Incentive (WIPSI) is part of the Productivity Investment Program as outlined in the economic growth plan for Nova Scotia.
About the WIPSI Program
WIPSI is a funding incentive designed to encourage businesses to invest in employee and management skills development, and improve productivity. It is also designed to help companies adapt to the introduction of new technology and innovative processes, and enhance international competitiveness. The funding to be provided through this program is based on the size of business and level of funding requested:
- Small business (under 50 employees)
- 100% funding for training costs between $5,000 - $10,000
- Cost-sharing (% to be determined) for training costs over $10,000
- Medium and large business (50+ employees)
- 50% funding for training costs over $5,000
- Companies to provide an in-kind contribution (i.e. Employee time)
Eligibility
The funding program through WIPSI is offered to companies that meet the following criteria:
- Located in Nova Scotia
- In existence for one or more years
- Any industry except wholesale, retail, accommodations & food services
- Employees taking the training must be permanently located in Nova Scotia

Workplace Skills Enhancement Program (WSEP)
The Workplace Skills Enhancement Program (WSEP) helps businesses in Newfoundland strategic sectors train employees to improve productivity and/or global competitiveness.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are businesses in strategic sectors including corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorships, co-operatives, social enterprises and business networks. It may also include not-for-profit organizations on behalf of businesses. Strategic sectors include:
- Advanced Technologies
- Aerospace
- Agri-foods, Food & beverage
- Aquaculture
- Biotechnology & life sciences
- Energy
- Environmental industries
- Forest Products
- Manufacturing
- Marine & ocean Technology
- Mineral resources, natural stone
- Tourism & cultural industries

Northern Training Partnership Fund
The Northern Training Partnership Fund supports skills training projects with a grant of up to 75 per cent of the total cost to deliver workplace skills training and employment supports.
About the Program
The Northern Training Partnership Fund:
- enables Northern Ontario communities/organizations to be better able to benefit from resource-related activities in Northern Ontario
- assists Northern Ontarians obtain sustained employment in resource-related economic development opportunities
- provides Northern Ontario employers in resource related sectors with a labour force that is trained to meet their specific workplace needs
- assists Northern Ontarians to gain transferable credentials (e.g. trades qualifications, certificates or licenses)
- assists employers an Northern Ontario communities/organizations to develop long-term relationships and partnerships.
Eligibility
An employer or a group of employers operating in Northern Ontario, or
- A First Nation or Métis community or group of communities; or
- An Aboriginal organization; or
- A community organization, training provider or service provider.
All training must occur in Northern Ontario and the project must be in Northern Ontario.Training in the following sectors is eligible:
- Agriculture
- Bio-economy
- Energy and Greener Economy
- Environment
- Forestry
- Mining
- Tourism
