How to find your SOLIDWORKS 2016 Installation Log files

Article by Chris Briand, CSWE created/updated February 10, 2016

The support team here at Javelin will often request the installation log files from customers who are experiencing issues with their SOLIDWORKS Installation.  These logs will assist us in determining the corrective actions required for an installation to proceed.

Prior releases made it a tad challenging to find the log files as they would be located deep within a user’s folder structure.

(Typically C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SOLIDWORKS\Installation Logs)

SOLIDWORKS 2016 has given us an easier method to gather the log files together!

  1. Right-Click the gray title bar at the top of the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager dialog as shown in the figure below.
  2. Choose the “Gather Installation Logs…” option and save the resulting zip file in a known location for a later upload.

Attach the log files to your support case and we can have a look at what is ailing your installation!
