If you haven’t yet heard of SOLIDWORKS 3D Interconnect, you are missing one of the key features of the SOLIDWORKS 2017 Release.

The 3D Interconnect utility allows you to import third-party CAD files that were created in other CAD systems. This is done directly without any conversion into a SOLIDWORKS file.

To enable this fantastic addition to the SOLIDWORKS suite of tools:

  1. Select ToolsOptions > System Options > Import to access the import options in the new location in the dialog.
  2. Select “Inventor/Catia V5/Creo/NX/Solid Edge” from the pulldown menu.
  3. Check the “Enable 3D Interconnect” checkbox.
  4. Pick OK to finish
