In the SolidWorks Essential course we provide students with techniques for creating efficient models. One of the many techniques I teach my students is the proper order in which to create features
Create boss extrudes before creating cut extrudes:
- A boss extrude may back fill cut extrude requiring an additional cut-extrude.
Create feature fillets last:
- Feature fillets can quickly consume system resources leading to poor performance.
- Feature fillets can impede the creation of other features as they may remove edges that create required to create or dimension new geometry.
- Additional fillets, of the same size, may be required later in design. If fillets are created last, it is easier to group fillets. All fillets of the same size can be grouped into a single feature, thereby making it easier to edit these fillets
Many more techniques can be learned at a SolidWorks Essentials course near you.
