Javelin fournit une imprimante 3D pour le nouveau centre de recherche du Collège Algonquin.
On January 30, 2015, college staff and faculty along with industry and government partners had the pleasure of attending the official opening of Algonquin College’s (Ottawa) Construction Research Centre. The new facilities are part of the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence and are designed to attract clients for the College’s Office of Applied Research & Innovation while providing students and graduates with access to cutting edge equipment and technology.
Amongst the attendees were Javelin Technologies’ Jeff Milloy, Ottawa Account Manager and Paul Sesto, Javelin’s new dedicated Education Specialist for 3D Printers. Javelin provides and supports Algonquin for their SolidWorks 3D CAD software and their Stratasys 3D printers. Jeff led the Javelin team that helped Algonquin acquire its Stratasys Connex 500 3D printer; part of the Centre’s new capabilities.
Along with the Stratasys 3D printer the Centre also includes 3D laser scanners, a Holostation for 3D visualization, infra-red cameras and 3D CAD and simulation software. This research equipment and software will support applied research projects which connect students, faculty, and industry clients to solve everyday challenges. The equipment and software will largely be used by students in construction and media and design programs.
“Applied research is an important part of what makes Algonquin College a polytechnic learning institution,” says Cheryl Jensen, President, Algonquin College. “This new research centre will enhance the hands-on learning opportunities for many of our students and deepens our ties with local industry. We are pleased to open this new centre and we thank our funding partners for their support of our students’ learning.”
During the Centre’s tour, Alex Yang, the Construction Research Centre Project Manager did such an excellent job explaining the principles of the 3D printing and its potential with the research environment that Javelin may just have to consider hiring him on as an “associate” representative.
Algonquin College is just one of over 125 Canadian academic institutions that Javelin supports for its 3D technology. Javelin is very proud to be an integral part of Canada’s academic excellence.
