It’s Labour Day in Canada today so it seemed appropriate to remind you of a great SOLIDWORKS labour saving tool that you have probably not got around to using yet.

The tool is called DriveWorksXpress and is included with SOLIDWORKS Standard, Professional and Premium bundles.

Do you make products that are the Same but Different?

DriveWorksXpress allows you to capture and re-use the engineering rules needed to specify, design, and create drawings of variant products. If you are creating similar designs in your business then you really need to take a look at DriveWorksXpress and learn how it will save you time and effort. Below is a short overview video that introduces the concept of intelligent SOLIDWORKS models, please take a look:

DriveWorksXpress 3 Step Process

If you liked what you saw in the overview video above then watch the videos below for a more detailed review of how to get started. DriveWorksXpress allows you to add rules to SOLIDWORKS models to make them intelligent, it is a straightforward 3-step process which is broken down into capturing models, creating a form, and adding design rules:

Step 1: Capture Models

Capture the dimensions, features, custom properties, and configurations to drive the customized output model.

Step 2: Create a Form

Use the form panel to create data entry fields where you can input numeric or text fields to drive the captured items.

Step 3: Add Design Rules

Use the rules panel to link the captured models to the forms you created for data entry.

A Free Online Course to Learn DriveWorksXpress

I hope the videos above helped to convince you that it’s easier than you might think to make your models intelligent and use DriveWorksXpress. If you want a free hands-on training course then I recommend the course in MySolidWorks. You will get the step-by-step instructions and there are example models so you can give it a try.
