When a SOLIDWORKS assembly file will not save the first workaround is to try and save the assembly with a new name, to a different folder, or to a local drive. If that doesn’t work then here are two other options for you to consider trying. Note that pattern and mirror…
SolidWorks Tutorial – Import Diagnostics (3) – Troubleshooting and Healing [VIDEO]
This is the third in a series of articles focused on troubleshooting and healing topological errors from geometry imported in SolidWorks. As we discovered in the second article of this series, the Import Diagnostics is a good tool for troubleshooting topological errors. It can also be used for fixing…
SolidWorks Tutorial: Import Diagnostics (2) – The Manual Healing Technique [VIDEO]
This is the second in a series of articles focused on troubleshooting and healing topological errors from geometry imported in SolidWorks. Yesterday we presented a simple case study of using the Import Diagnostics tool inside SolidWorks for troubleshooting and fixing errors in an imported body. While that workflow did…
SolidWorks Tutorial: Import Diagnostics (1) – “Face Piercing Through Solid” Error [VIDEO]
This week, we will post a series of articles focused on troubleshooting and healing topological errors from geometry imported in SolidWorks. Two designers of different nationalities can communicate using a lingua franca, a language that is not native to either of them, but which is known…
Doesn’t matter if you are The Company Owner, a Manager, a SolidWorks Expert or just a SolidWorks Beginner, you will be extremely happy taking advantage of the most important enhancement introduced to SolidWorks this year: the ability to replace sketch entities. As the owner, CEO or manager you will notice how much faster your design team will be able to change their design intent during all phases of the design process. What before would take them hours can be done now in seconds. Moreover, the number of errors in your drawings and, ultimately, in your products will decrease by an order of magnitude! If you are a SolidWorks Power User, a large portion of your work time was most likely dedicated troubleshooting and fixing your colleagues models after they…
There are lots of reasons why models imported in SolidWorks from IGES, STEP or Parasolid files have topological errors. The simplest analogy I can make is that the various CAD products used for creating geometry speak different languages and, in order to understand each other, they need translators. These translators are the neutral formats mentioned before. That being said, whenever you get a middleman in the communication chain, bits of information could be lost and as a result you get topological errors like: gaps in the body self intersecting faces faces with more than one closed contour faces that are piercing the solid body Once the errors are identified they need to be repaired before using the model for anything else. In this series of articles,…
When entities referred in existing mates (faces, edges, vertices, planes) change, the result is often a long list of errors in your assembly feature tree. This video presents an elegant way to replace the defective mate references in bulk and, thus, save time.
