Ever thought of moving your SOLIDWORKS Simulation study to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform for faster processing and better results? This article is a good start for you…

How does transferring your study work?

The 3DEXPERIENCE connector (Aka. MySession) on SOLIDWORKS allows you to communicate directly with the platform, and therefore offer you a wide variety of data management options, apps to work with, and transfer to.

On the task pane, in the simulations tab there is a simulations gear icon. That’s what we use to transfer our studies.

“Create Structural Simulation” button in MySession

Once clicked, the MySession prompts us that the model is ready to use on the platform.

From then, we can search for the part using the SIMULIA App that should be already downloaded, and open.

You will get a dialog asking you which app within the SIMULIA would you like to use to open it.

You will notice that some features of the study do get transferred, others do not. That will depend on what you used to define.

The elements that can be transferred is available for the User Assistance for 3DX Simulia help file:

  • Forces & Constrains: Can transfer easily.
  • Materials: Only materials applied from the 3DEXPERIENCE material library can transfer successfully
  • Contact Sets: Contact sets applied in SOLIDWORKS are replaced by contact interactions detected by the general contact method in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
  • Mesh: The 3DEXPERIENCE platform recreates a similar mesh of high-quality tetrahedral elements for the solid parts.

Dassault Systems are working hard on making both the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and SOLIDWORKS Simulations as compatible as possible, therefore this might be a upgrade.
