SOLIDWORKS 2019 Warning when Inserting Complex Components

Everyone wants improved performance when working with their assemblies.  If this is causing a significant hindrance to your productivity, let us help with our Large Assembly Productivity Service and we will solve any assembly issues you may be having! What some may not realize is that the bulk of the lag may come down to a couple “simple” components.  Imported geometry from a 3rd party source is a common problem.  While it looks like a simplified model without a long list of features, all of the fine details with a high Image Quality setting can wreak havoc on generating the graphics in assemblies. SOLIDWORKS 2019 now provides a pop-up warning as you insert a complex part so you can take action before things get out of control.  In the example below, I’ve inserted an imported model of a Chiller.  No features in the model, just a single part file with several dumb bodies. …

How to get the best performance from SOLIDWORKS Composer

While carrying out technical support, customers report different types of issues related to SOLIDWORKS Composer performance in which Composer doesn’t behave normally. Most of these issues are graphics related; and many occur when a different version or service-pack of Composer is installed on a machine which resets all the performance options to default. Some of the common SOLIDWORKS Composer performance issues are: When we hover over the part in a Composer assembly, instead of highlighting one part, composer starts some sort of animation and highlights the whole assembly. Cutting plane capping color grayed out in the properties tab Longer time to import SOLIDWORKS files into Composer All the above issues and any other related problems are because of the Graphics and can be resolved following the steps below: Application Preferences – Quality: Make sure in SOLIDWORKS composer profile is set to High Quality. To do so go to File >…

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2019 Performance Improvements

SOLIDWORKS PDM Performance is always a concern for administrators. Even small delays quickly compound when they affect multiple users, multiple times a day for repetitive actions.  On the other hand, when dealing with very large vaults with hundreds of users in particular, saving even a few seconds on processes that are repeated hundreds of times a day can mean a big win for an organization overall. In SOLIDWORKS PDM 2019, working with large assemblies and especially files with complex reference structures is faster than ever before. Large, complex lists in the “Contains” and “Where Used” tabs will display much more quickly than in previous releases. Additionally, many file operations such as moving, dragging and dropping, re-naming and adding files are much faster in SOLIDWORKS PDM 2019. Even simply browsing through the vault, especially browsing into folders that contain a very large number of files that have already been locally cached…

Optimize SOLIDWORKS Performance by disabling unused tools

SOLIDWORKS Instant3D

SOLIDWORKS has a wealth of functionality meant to improve the user experience. Since every user uses SOLIDWORKS differently however, there are often many tools that are rarely, if ever, used or needed. It is often advantageous to disable these tools to reduce the load that SOLIDWORKS places on your computer, thereby increasing performance. This article provides examples of tools and utilities that you should consider disabling to optimize SOLIDWORKS performance. SOLIDWORKS Search SOLIDWORKS Indexing is used in conjunction with the SOLIDWORKS Search functionality (located in the top right-hand corner of the SOLIDWORKS window). There is an option to control how SOLIDWORKS indexes files found under Tools > Options > System Options > Search category. In the indexing performance section ensure that the index only when computer is idle option is selected. Additional options you could disable are Search while typing and Include 3D ContentCentral results, these two options will make your search results appear faster and not…

Help DS SolidWorks Improve the Performance of Large Assemblies and Drawings

Submit SOLIDWORKS Software Performance Reports (SPR) and Enhancement Requests (ER) Have you encountered SOLIDWORKS software performance that has hindered your workflow and caused frustration? One of the less known techniques for bug reports and performance enhancements requests is getting Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corporation attention by reporting issues directly to them and voting for enhancements. The most effective way to get DS SolidWorks to dedicate resources to solving these issues is by having a large amount of users vote on an SPR or ER. Issues with a large amount of supporters will be placed at higher priority than issues that are reported but not as common or heavily supported by other users. Equally important is describing in as much detail as possible what the business impact for your company will be if the bug is not fixed, or if the enhancement is not implemented. Make sure that your explanation boils down to…

New Progress Indicator for Opening Assemblies in SOLIDWORKS 2018

SOLIDWORKS Assembly Open progress indicator

The new SOLIDWORKS Assembly Open progress indicator will resonate with anyone who has sat staring at their monitor wondering at exactly what stage, and exactly how long their assembly will take to open at any point. It is the tip of the iceberg for some additional functionality contained within the Performance Evaluation Dialog. The aim of this new dialog is to provide us with information that will ultimately keep us from killing the SLDWORKS.exe process from the task manager when we believe things are not taking too long or are “Frozen” while opening assemblies upon the system. The indicator walks us through the time involved in opening the assembly, as well as which one of the three phases of opening the file we are currently in: Opening Components into RAM Updating the Assembly Updating the Graphics Display PLEASE NOTE: The progress indicator dialog will only remain open when the assembly…

Using the SOLIDWORKS Rollback Bar has no effect on rebuild time!

The Performance Evaluation tool in SOLIDWORKS provides the capability of showing the rebuild time for the whole model. In addition, one can see a break down of rebuild time for individual feature. Because the rebuild times for feature are sorted from longest to shortest, the feature which take long for rebuild would be distinguishable. In case of troubleshooting some errors or warnings in a part model, eliminating those features could help in quicker overall rebuild time and much less waiting times. In the following, some options are explored to work with in SOLIDWORKS to temporary reduce the rebuild time. SOLIDWORKS Freeze Bar SOLIDWORKS Freeze Bar helps reducing rebuild time by eliminating the parent features which are located higher up on the feature tree from being rebuilt at every step. This dramatically drops down the overall rebuild time. Therefore, the designer can focus on troubleshooting the issues on the other features….

SOLIDWORKS 2018 includes enhancements to the Performance Evaluation Tool

SOLIDWORKS 2018 Performance Evaluation Tool

One of the lesser known tools in SOLIDWORKS assembly environment is the “Performance Evaluation” tool. This tool is especially useful when working with large assemblies and helps to identify areas that you can work on to improve the performance when working with a large assembly. Even in some cases, you can select to have the software make changes to your assembly to improve performance. There has been some enhancements that make the SOLIDWORKS 2018 Performance Evaluation Tool even more useful. Some of them are as follows: Document Open File Details You can see a list of files by the amount of time required to open them in SOLIDWORKS. Usually that is the first step to identify the culprit of slow performance in a large assembly. Also, clicking on Show These Files shows a list of the files that are updated while the assembly opens. Graphics Triangles This option helps you to…
