A new feature added in SolidWorks 2012 is the SolidWorks Part Reviewer Add-In. This new tool can be used to review, step-by-step, the features used to create the geometry of a part.
Many SolidWorks users are aware that an effective way to learn how to create advanced geometry is to dissect and analyze models created by others. Previously this could be done by use of the Rollback Bar, however the new Part Reviewer Add-In automates the process.
The Add-In can be enabled by going to Tools > Add-Ins… and selecting the “SolidWorks Part Reviewer” from the “SolidWorks Add-ins” group.
Once enabled, the Part Reviewer will appear in the Task Pane. Clicking the “Play” button will step through each feature in the order of creation, showing the feature name and any attached comments in the Part Reviewer pane, while the geometry created in each step is highlighted in the graphics area.
SolidWorks has provided a number of sample files, available for download through the SolidWorks forum, to help users see how this new tool can be used.
In addition to being an effective learning tool, this new Add-In also can be used to communicate important information between designers working on models. Comments can be added to each feature by right clicking on them in the Feature Manager Design Tree and selecting “Comment” > “Add Comment”.
