SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2017 Super Part

Article by Delvin Masilamani updated October 3, 2016

Often we find our design requiring more than one part to make up a component. To accommodate this group of parts/assembly there is now a new way of creating a part in SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2017 called a ‘Super Part’. The steps described below will show you how to define a psrt such as a fuse, so that even the fuse base is automatically selected.

Learn more about Super Parts from the ECAD technical manager at DS SOLIDWORKS in the video below:

Steps to create a Super Part:

  1. Select Library Ribbon
  2. Go to Manufacturing Parts manager
  3. Drop the “Add manufacturer part” list down  and select “Add Super part
Add manufacturer part menu

Add manufacturer part menu

  1. Assign Part information on the Properties tab. As always add Class and Library and description so that it is easy to search for in your live project.
  2. On the Manufacturer Parts tab, add all the parts required to make the Super part as shown in the figure below:

Assign all parts that make the super part

Other applications

Similarly this concept can be applied to other components like Connectors. If a part number is selected it can bring up all the required OEM parts to build it (Connector shell, Contacts, etc.).
