Why does my SOLIDWORKS Model appear Black?

When a SOLIDWORKS model changes appearance and becomes black, the cause of the change may not be found in the display-state pane… 

Red appearance, black model

…but because lights have been disabled.  

Lights are turned off and need to be turned on
