SOLIDWORKS Composer 2021 – Delete Empty Groups at Import

Ever imported models into SOLIDWORKS Composer only to find that some of the assembly structure is empty?  You might then be tempted to go through the assembly tree and manually delete those empty groups.  Fortunately, this cleanup just got easier!

A new enhancement in 2021 for SOLIDWORKS Composer and SOLIDWORKS Composer Sync is the ability to automatically delete empty groups during the import process.  This will help de-clutter the assembly tree by removing empty assembly structure, saving you that cleanup time so that you can focus more on creating content.

The setting is a document property found in File > Properties > Document Properties > Advanced Properties > OUTPUT > IODeleteEmptyGroups.  In order to take advantage of this functionality, you will want to ensure that this property is enabled.
