How to get DraftSight Certification

Article by Mike Walloch, CSWE updated April 8, 2024

DraftSight users now have the chance to earn DraftSight certification! The Certified DraftSight Associate (CDSA) has been added to the roster of available certifications. Read on to learn more about it, and how to get it.

DraftSight, like SOLIDWORKS, is part of the Dassault Systèmes family of CAD applications. The SOLIDWORKS Certification Program has been around since 1998, longer than many SOLIDWORKS users have. If offers us the ability to prove our skills with verifiable certifications the industry takes seriously. With a certification you’re not the one telling employers you know your stuff, Dassault Systèmes is telling them you know your stuff.

The DraftSight Associate Exam

Earning certifications requires taking exams to prove you know the software at the level being tested. The DraftSight Associate exam tests your knowledge of 2D Design and Drafting. Once you’ve passed the exam and earned the DraftSight Associate certification you never have to renew it. It’s yours for life. You get an electronic certificate with a unique verification code.

Most of the questions are multiple-choice, but some hands-on questions require you to use DraftSight during the exam. Here are some important things to know about the exam:

  • 41 Questions
  • 1 Hour Time Limit
  • 70% Minimum Score to Pass

Unanswered questions count the same as wrong answers. This means you don’t actually have to answer every question, so long as you answer at least 70% of them right. It’s also an open-book test, so to speak. You’ll have DraftSight open so you can check things like available command options. I also suggest you use DraftSight Help to look up answers to questions you’re not sure about.

For more information about the exam and a list of topics covered by it, visit the DraftSight Associate – 2D Design and Drafting page in the SOLIDWORKS Certification Program catalog.

How to Take the DraftSight Certification Exam

To take the exam you’ll need to create an account with the 3DEXPERIENCE Certification Center and log in. Next, you’ll download and install the Tangix TesterPRO Client software on your computer.

Once you launch the TesterPRO application you’ll be prompted to pick a language and log in. If you don’t already have a VirtualTester UserID set up, you can create it from here. Next, select DraftSight from the selection of brands, then select the DraftSight Associate exam and follow the prompts.

You will need a Voucher Code to take the exam

Exam vouchers can be purchased from the DraftSight Associate – 2D Design and Drafting page. Like SOLIDWORKS exams, each $99 USD voucher is good for one attempt at the exam, pass or fail. So, be sure you’re ready before you begin the test. Remember that once you start the exam, the clock starts ticking. It can’t be paused.

Tips for Passing the DraftSight Certification Exam

There are a seven things you can do to set yourself up for DraftSight Certification success:

  1. Make sure you’re well-versed in DraftSight is the first step, of course. Here are some resources that could help:
  2. Since the test can’t be paused, you really don’t want to experience a crash on your computer during the exam. So, I’d recommend rebooting your machine before taking the exam. Only launch the applications you need.
  3. Since there is a hands-on portion of the exam, launch DraftSight and have a folder on your computer ready. You’ll need to download a zip file from TesterPRO after the test begins and unzip the contents into your working folder.
  4. Have DraftSight Help open and ready. Personally, I prefer to use the online version of DraftSight Help in a browser tab.
  5. If possible, use at least two monitors. That way you can keep the TesterPRO application on one screen, DraftSight, and DraftSight Help on another.
  6. Eliminate possible distractions! Since you can’t pause the exam, do what you can to make sure you’ll have an uninterrupted hour to work. You may not need the entire hour. But be sure you’ve got it in case you do.
  7. And finally, do not give up during the test! Even if you find you’re unprepared and think you can’t pass the exam, get as far as you can. You might surprise yourself. And even if something goes wrong, a failed attempt is the best possible study guide for your next attempt.

With a little study and preparation, you shouldn’t have any trouble passing the exam. Then the DraftSight Associate certification will be yours.
