SOLIDWORKS 2016 Offset Entities Enhancements

New for the SOLIDWORKS 2016 Offset Entities sketch tool is the ability to create cap ends while offsetting open loop entities in 2D sketches. The cap end type can either be an arc or a line. Capping entities while offsetting is not new but previously you could only apply cap ends on a bi-directional offset. So this gives you more opportunity to create closed loops when offsetting entities.

To apply cap ends to offset geometry, select a sketch entity and click Tools > Sketch Tools > Offset Entities then after selecting the entities you wish to offset choose the type of Cap required in the PropertyManager:

The Offset will then be applied with the cap ends included as shown in the example below:

Construction Geometry

There is also a new option to create construction geometry for the new offset entities or convert the selected entities to construction geometry while using the Offset Entities tool. The option is available below the Cap Ends option. Shown below is an example of construction applied to the offset geometry:
