Video rendering with SOLIDWORKS PhotoView 360

PhotoView 360 video rendering

Let’s look at a quite different topic today, PhotoView 360 video rendering. It’s not just creating animation and record it.  You can actually add photo rendering in the video. I am quite amazed SOLIDWORKS can do this now so the animation doesn’t look dull. However, if…

How can Simulation Help Design Process?

I read an article recently, regarding to how Simulation can improve product design.  There are some interesting points I would like to talk about. The purpose of any FEA software is to linearize the product development, eventually, to reduce cost.  For new product or existing design, FEA plays its role in the process.  The article gives an example of a plastic stool design.  The requirements are to hold certain weight, and as inexpensive as possible.  3 designs are compared: one without any inside ribs, one with shallow ribs, one with deep ribs.  Without any help from FEA, one, from experience, could choose the design with deep ribs.  The design will most likely meet the strength requirement, but how about the cost?  The design is “good…

Some SOLIDWORKS Simulation Usage Tips

SOLIDWORKS Simulation Webinars

Here are a few SOLIDWORKS Simulation usage tips we provide in training classes: SOLIDWORKS Simulation How to successfully mesh? Mesh failure is common if only global size is used, because small features/components may not take the global mesh size, or the mesh size tolerance is…

How to apply Layer Mapping when exporting DWG/DXF from SOLIDWORKS

22 e1471357984877

DWG/DXF files are still widely used by designers and engineers. Layers are very useful in 2D drawings to distinguish different types of entities. In SOLIDWORKS drawings, there is a layer tool in the Line Format toolbar where you can manually set up different layers, but the process is rather time…

How to create a Spiral / Helical Sheet Metal Model that can be flattened

13

If you want to create a spiral / helical sheet metal model, using the sweep feature + insert bends will not do the job. You will need to use two different size helix / spiral paths: Then, convert these curves to 3D sketch entities: Now, use…
