SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2016 Equation-driven Results option is a valuable tool for post-processing of the results. This feature enables you to create a new simulation result plot with a combination of available results variables using standard mathematical functions.
How to set up an Equation-driven Results Plot
As shown in Figure 1, right-click on results folder and select ‘Results Equation‘ from the shortcut menu to create an equation-driven result plot. Either ‘node’ or ‘element’ values can be selected for the new desired plot. Then the equation that drives the new result plot can be entered in the Edit Equation dialog box, as depicted in Figure 2.
As you can see in Figure 2, the drop-down menu list includes mathematical functions as well as results for stress, strain and displacement.
Figure 3 demonstrates which mathematical functions or results are available in Edit Equation drop-down menu.
For example, the ratio of von Misses stress to Equivalent Strain value is defined in the Edit Equation dialog box. The user defined legend title can be entered in ‘Equation Plot Options’ under ‘Legend title text’ area, as shown in Figure 4.
The final Equation-driven plot of stress/strain is also depicted in Figure 5.
