How to restore your Dismissed SOLIDWORKS Messages

Article by Scott Durksen, CSWE updated November 30, 2022

Have you been wondering where those pop-up dialog boxes with options have gone?  If you selected the checkbox “Don’t show again”, then what you select in a pop-up dialog will be the default.  You will no longer see the message to make a selection.  This post shows how to restore your dismissed SOLIDWORKS Messages.

Although this can save time by not having to click an extra button every time, some dialog boxes contain more options that you may wish to use in the future.  For example, the message below displays after editing a sketch that results in errors in features below.  If you select “Continue (Ignore Error)” the entire tree will be visible with all errors.  If you select “Stop and Repair” the tree will be rolled back to only show one error.  If you were to check “Don’t show again” and select “Stop and Repair”, every time you fix a feature and there are additional errors, it will automatically roll back your design tree.  You may discover that you want to see this dialog box again to have the option.

So how do you re-enable a dismissed message?  Go to Tools > Options > System Options tab > Messages/Errors/Warnings > Dismissed Messages.  There will be a list of all dismissed messages.  Simply select the one you would like returned and click OK.  If you re-enable the wrong one, you only need to select “Don’t ask me again” when the message pops up in the future!
