SOLIDWORKS Fillet
SOLIDWORKS is a powerful 3D modeling software that allows users to create detailed parts and assemblies. One of the features that makes SOLIDWORKS so versatile is the ability to create fillets, which are rounded edges on a part. There are two main methods for creating…
Variable size fillets are a common tool used inside of the SOLIDWORKS modeling environment. We will go through some of the different options available when creating variable size fillets as well as how to create them. As you may expect, Variable Size fillets are simply…
In every major release of SOLIDWORKS, there will be countless enhancements and hundreds of pages of release notes. There will always be some key new features and improvements that take the spotlight, but often it’s the little changes that can make a big difference in your…
Have you ever had a Fillet Error? When was the last time that you made a minor change to your model which caused a fillets to have a “missing edge reference” even though the edges are exactly where they used to be? Did it happen…
Have you always wanted to be in charge of your fillets and chamfers? New in SOLIDWORKS 2019 are new features called the SOLIDWORKS Partial Fillet and Chamfer; where you are able to specify the length of fillet/chamfer on your model edges. This will give you freedom…
If you have been working with SOLIDWORKS for a while, you have likely noticed the lack of attention that the Chamfer tool has received from year to year (it’s cousin the fillet, always seemed to get the good stuff). Before you make that call to…
Using the “Offset Face” or “Face-Face” chamfer options within SOLIDWORKS 2017, grants us an additional ability! We can now swap back and forth between a fillet and a chamfer if needed! To do this right-click on either the “Offset Face” or “Face-Face” Chamfer. And select Convert…
SOLIDWORKS 2016 now includes the option to set your edge fillets (constant or variable size) to be Curvature Continuous Edge Fillets for a smoother transition to adjacent faces. This also applies to the Asymmetric fillet parameter. Previously the Curvature Continuous profile was only available with Face Fillets….
When applyIng a fillet feature to a lot of edges, the most time consuming part is selecting them. In SolidWorks 2012 and prior, selecting edges based on rules was available only when using the FilletXpert. Because of that, the user’s options were restricted to applying constant radius fillets only. Starting with SolidWorks 2013, this functionality has been extended to manual fillets, offering fast edge selection for constant and variable radius fillets. This video presents two different techniques for saving time while filleting. In more complex models, these workflows can potentially save minutes or even hours of what it is in the end a very boring and repetitive task.
