SOLIDWORKS 2024 introduced a new direct method for forming sheet metal parts. While the existing SOLIDWORKS forming tool requires the creation of a separate file which must be added to the design library, the stamp tool provides a quick and easy way to apply a form feature to sheet metal parts using a simple parametric sketch.

Creating a SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal Stamp

Sketch the desired profile on the sheet metal face you want to stamp. Keep in mind that this sketch must be a single closed contour. With the sketch selected, navigate to the Stamp command using the SOLIDWORKS menu bar: Insert > Sheet Metal > Stamp. This command can additionally be added to any tab in your command manager for convenience.

The simple and intuitive property manager options allow the designer to quickly apply a punch-and-die concept to their sheet metal part. You can set the depth, direction, and draft angle of the feature in the stamp parameter section of the property manager. Input the die radius, punch radius, and punch side corner radius in the fillet section. Click OK to complete.

Now designers can quickly experiment with punch ideas right in their model before creating a reusable forming tool.

Note: Although traditional SOLIDWORKS fillet features may be applied, the Stamp property manager preserves the sheet metal thickness.
