What Causes the “Specified Module Could Not Be Found” Error?

This issue can stem from remnants of a previous version of the software lingering on your computer that causes SOLIDWORKS Electrical to reference an outdated module’s folder that no longer exists. When you upgrade or reinstall SOLIDWORKS Electrical, old files or settings may not be fully removed. As a result, the software might still be looking for certain modules associated with the previous installation. This can lead to a frustrating error message every time you launch the software.

Fix 1: Removing The Bin Folder and Other Relevant Folders

The first step you should take is to remove the bin folder and other relevant folders before relaunching the software. Relaunching the software should repopulate these folders correctly.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS Electrical. In this folder, delete every single file except for PdfLibraryResource.
  2. Relaunch SOLIDWORKS Electrical.

Fix 2: Copying Modules from Another Machine

One effective solution is to source the missing modules from another user’s machine that is running SOLIDWORKS Electrical without issues. This method can quickly restore functionality without the need for a full reinstallation.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the specific modules mentioned in the error message.
  2. Access the SOLIDWORKS installation directory on the functioning machine. The default location is C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS Electrical
  3. Navigate to the relevant folder for the missing module and copy the necessary files.
  4. Paste them into the equivalent folder on the non-functioning machine.

Fix 3: Clean Uninstall and Reinstall

If copying modules doesn’t resolve the issue, a clean uninstall and reinstall of SOLIDWORKS Electrical may be necessary. This process ensures that any corrupted or leftover files are completely removed, allowing for a fresh start.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall SOLIDWORKS Electrical.
  2. After uninstalling, manually delete any remaining SOLIDWORKS Electrical folders in the installation directory and the user data folder.
  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS Electrical. In this folder, delete every single file except for PdfLibraryResource.
  4. Restart your computer to ensure the uninstall finishes completely.
  5. Reinstall SOLIDWORKS Electrical using the latest installation files. The installation process will replace any of the files we deleted in Steps 2 and 3.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the “specified module could not be found” error and get back to your electrical design projects with minimal distractions.
