How to Export All Data from 3DEXPERIENCE

Article by John Lee, CSWE updated January 10, 2025

Backing up your data is always a good policy. 3DEXPERIENCE includes cloud-based file storage already, but if you want to create an on-site backup then keep reading.  We’ll walk through the export of:

  • one project (top-level assembly) at a time, in a separate zip file for each project
  • all data together in a single zip file

Exporting one project at a time to separate zip files

To export data for just a single project

  1. To locate the file, use the search field at the top of the session, or Bookmark Editor if the file has been bookmarked.
  2. select the top-level assembly (shown below as outlined in blue, when selected)

  3. click the chevron to its right, and choose Export As.
  4. Skip ahead to step 8 (below) for the rest of the steps.

Exporting the entire data set as a single zip file

Disclaimer: the resulting zip file of the entire data set can be HUGE if you have a lot of data to export.  For that reason, you may want to consider instead the workflow described above in this article, of exporting one project (top-level assembly) at a time.

  1. Use the Bookmark Editor app to create a new bookmark for the export.  You will need it in the next step.  Choose an intuitive name for the bookmark, such as “export all data”.  Leave Bookmark Editor open with the new bookmark selected, in preparation for a later step.

  2. Search for “prd”.  This should report all files because they all include “prd” in their name.  “Name” is the unique identifier in 3DEXPERIENCE.  This step assumes that the default naming convention is used.  Otherwise, if you have customized the naming convention, then search for whatever you use instead of “prd”:

  3. Optional: search/filter using 6W tags.  6W stands for Who, What, Where, etc.

  4. Select all by putting a tick in the box shown below, which ticks all rows.  Check the counter that confirms how many selected out of how many results.  Ideally the numbers should match.  If they don’t, try scrolling down the list to the bottom, and then re-select all.

  5. Drag the selected items to the bookmark that was created in the earlier step.  To do this:
    1. left-mouse-click on the blue highlighting of the selected items, and start dragging
    2. the drag operation should trigger a switch back to Bookmark Editor.  Drop the items into Bookmark Editor.
    3. Bookmark Editor applies the bookmark to all items that were dropped into it.  The more items, the longer it will take to apply the bookmark, so you may need to wait a moment.
  6. In Bookmark Editor, group-select files for the first batch to be exported.
    • to group-select all items, select one of them and press Ctrl+A
    • to group-select some but not all items, you can use Shift+click or Ctrl+click.
  7. From Bookmark Editor, with the items selected from the previous step, click the 3 dots in the upper right and choose Export As

  8. in the Export As dialogue, give the export an intuitive title for the zip file and optionally set it to Include Drawing.
    • Note the count of included items (in green).  If this count is less than the number of items that were dragged into Bookmark Editor, then try scrolling all the way down in Bookmark Editor until you cannot scroll down any further.  This should update the list completely.  Try again to Export As
    • Note any excluded items (in red) which may require further attention to troubleshoot.  To identify which ones are excluded, click the exclusion counter (in red) for a complete list of which are included and which are excluded.  Note: files created by x-apps (such as xDesign) may be excluded, at the time this article was written.

  9. A job is created and processed.  Status of larger jobs can be viewed in the app CAD Data Processor Monitoring.  Smaller jobs might not appear this way if they have already completed, but read on for how to track those.

  10. When the job is completed, a notification appears (in the 3DNotification Center) stating that the job is complete and to click to download.

  11. Click on the notification, which brings up the Download button and job record in CAD Data Processor Monitoring app:2025 05 20 16 50 44
  12. Download the resulting zip file.

It is recommended to test on a small file set, to gain familiarity with the process, before moving on to larger file sets.
