The Last Step to Update the SOLIDWORKS SolidNetWork License Server

When updating SOLIDWORKS that has been installed using a floating, network license the latest version, many users will forget the very last step, re-activating the SolidNetWork License Manager Server. If the step is missed, for instance when updating to SOLIDWORKS 2019, any client computers still using the older version of SOLIDWORKS would still be able to get their licenses and open the program, but as soon as a user tried to open SOLIDWORKS 2019 they would receive the message “Could not obtain a license for SOLIDWORKS”. That’s because the SNL License manager just wouldn’t have a license of SOLIDWORKS 2019 to give out yet, it needs to be reactivated first….

SOLIDWORKS 2019 Downloads Faster and with Greater Success

As SOLIDWORKS provides new tools and products to make your design process easier and faster, the SOLIDWORKS 2019 download size has inevitably got larger.  Yet computer technology is also increasing.  Hard drives have more capacity and internet speeds are increasing at the speed of light (pun intended).  I have a fiber optic internet connection with close to 200Mbps download speed.  An entire service pack download of SOLIDWORKS (~13GB) can be completed in about 20 minutes. SOLIDWORKS 2019 Installation Manager Yet for those who don’t have access to high-speed broadband internet, the download can seem large and slow.  The SOLIDWORKS 2019 Installation Manager has been optimized to have faster downloads and a higher rate of success.  In some cases it has been found to be twice as fast.  But don’t expect a 20 minute download to be reduced to 10 minutes on a high-speed connection.  Though I did go from about…

How to find your SOLIDWORKS 2016 Installation Log files

The support team here at Javelin will often request the installation log files from customers who are experiencing issues with their SOLIDWORKS Installation.  These logs will assist us in determining the corrective actions required for an installation to proceed. Prior releases made it a tad challenging to find the log files as they would be located deep within a user’s folder structure. (Typically C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SOLIDWORKS\Installation Logs) SOLIDWORKS 2016 has given us an easier method to gather the log files together! Right-Click the gray title bar at the top of the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager dialog as shown in the figure below. Choose the “Gather Installation Logs…” option and save the resulting zip file in a known location for a later upload. Attach the log files to your support case and we can have a look at what is ailing your installation!
