If you’ve recently upgraded to Windows 10 and you’ve received a SOLIDWORKS PDM error: ‘Failed to extract add-in…’ you’re not alone. This can be caused by the SOLIDWORKS PDM add-in being built with .NET Framework 3.5 and Windows 10 only has .NET Framework 4.5 enabled by default.
How to manually enable .NET Framework 3.5
- Start > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off;
- Check the box for .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
- Hit OK and Reboot
