The focus of the Using SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard training course is on the fundamental skills and concepts central to the successful use of SOLIDWORKS PDM including storing documents, revision control, and working within SOLIDWORKS.
This course is designed around a process or task-based approach to training. Rather than focus on individual features and functions, a process-based training course emphasizes the process and procedures you follow to complete a particular task.
By utilizing case studies to illustrate these processes, you will learn the necessary commands, options and menus in the context of completing a task.

Using SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard Lessons
This course will concentrate on the following topics:
Lesson 1: Installation Planning
Gather the required information needed to plan a SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard installation and understand the scenario used for this course.
Lesson 2: The Administration Tool
Start the SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard Administration tool. During lesson 2, we will identify the major sections of the Administration tool, create a new SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard vault and create a local view of a SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard vault.
Lesson 3: Users and Groups
Add new users and groups to the vault. Lesson 3 will explain how to create and apply permissions to users and how to assign Group level permissions.
Lesson 4: Folder Card Creation
Understand how cards work within PDM. Attendees will create a Folder Card from scratch and assign variables to the card.
Lesson 5: File and Search Cards
Lesson 5 looks at importing cards into the PDM Vault & making changes. Control Logic will be added to cards to limit visibility dependant on options selected. Also time will be spent looking at the Quick Search functionality.
Lesson 6: Column and Bill of Materials (BOM) Views
Creation of a File List Column set to dictate the way PDM Columns will show within Windows Explorer for users. Course attendees will also create a BOM Column set to be used within the Windows Explorer view of PDM.
Lesson 7: Workflow
Create a Workflow to represent the entire internal workflow structure of files practised in the training scenario. Learn how to add States and Transitions to allow the movement of files through the Workflow. Permissions will be added to the previously created States and Transitions to restrict Users and Groups access to each stage of the Workflow. Create and apply a Revision Scheme to the Workflow.
Lesson 8: Notifications and Tasks
Learn to configure automatic notifications to be sent during file life cycles (attached to workflow). Set up Tasks in the Vault and attach them to Workflow Transitions. Configure Machines to be used to run tasks.
Lesson 9: Data Migration
Lesson 9 will look at the best workflow to bring in legacy data into the Vault on a case by case basis and setting Metadata to correct values.
Lesson 10: Vault Backup
Understanding the process to backup both the Archive Server and the Database for the PDM Vault.
