Javelin Technologies and Cimetrix Solutions unite to form additive manufacturing powerhouse for Canadian engineers and manufacturers

Story by Karen Majerly on May 7, 2018

Canada has a new 3D design engineering and additive manufacturing powerhouse. Javelin Technologies and Cimetrix Solutions have merged to boost service to their 6,000 customers who drive innovation in every sector of the Canadian economy.

Javelin Technologies is a veteran in 3D design engineering, product data management, automation, and additive manufacturing (industrial 3D printing) in plastic and metal. Cimetrix is Canada’s authority on additive manufacturing and laser scanning solutions for both industry and educational institutions. Combining the two companies in a unified team creates a new level of service and support for Canada’s most creative, from students and start-ups to the largest top-tier manufacturers.

The senior management team for the integrated company will consist of Javelin’s leaders – John Carlan and Ted Lee – and James Janeteas of Cimetrix. Javelin will continue to be known as Javelin Technologies and Cimetrix will be referred to as “Cimetrix Solutions, a division of Javelin Technologies.” The integrated company covers Canada coast to coast, with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Kitchener, Oakville, Oshawa, Montreal, and Dartmouth. All current employees will have a key role in the unified company.

“Our focus has always been on taking care of our customers by understanding what drives their business and providing solutions that affect the bottom line,” Janeteas said. “I’m excited because by combining our expertise and resources, we can be even more responsive and provide even deeper application knowledge and advice.”

Immersed in high-growth sectors

Javelin has a new investment partner − CAI Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in Vancouver. CAI has a long history of partnering with Canadian founder-led businesses to support growth initiatives and build upon their past success.

Separately, Javelin and Cimetrix are already immersed in rapidly changing, high-growth sectors such as manufacturing, energy, and healthcare. Together, they say they’ll be even better positioned to solve their customers’ toughest challenges.

“We shorten the distance between idea and production,” said Javelin’s Lee. “We help people and businesses execute well, and that’s never been more important. Joining Javelin and Cimetrix means we’re putting ourselves exactly where our customers will be and will need us to be.”

Casey Thivierge is Director of Engineering with A.V. Gauge & Fixture, which provides custom gauges and fixtures to manufacturers in all industries. With its main operations near Windsor, Ontario, the company employs more than 250 people in eight facilities in three countries. Thivierge said the merger of Javelin and Cimetrix is good news for their business.

“Our goal is to continually improve in all areas to maintain our high standards of quality and service. We appreciate every resource available to us, from knowledgeable advisers to the latest in technology, systems, and equipment. Javelin and Cimetrix have been an integral part of our growth and development through the years.  Now, as a unified team, they’ll become an even stronger force with even more tools and resources to help us.  Working with both of them has been and continues to be an outstanding experience. They will continue to propel us, as well as other Canadian businesses, well into the future of advanced manufacturing.”
